Chapter 3

I was running. I knew I was running from someone, but I didn't know why or from who. I kept glancing behind me as if I was expecting someone to be running behind me, but there was no one. It didn't matter though, I kept running.
It was night and I was in a forest somewhere. Moonlight shone on the ragged path that I ran on. It wasn't much of a path however. Twigs and branches kept scratching me as I ran, but I couldn't stop now and I ignored them.
I knew I was going to tire out eventually. I had never been much of a runner, but I just couldn't stop now. I couldn't.
A scream tears through my throat as I trip over a tree root. I crash against the ground my forehead hitting something sharp and pointed. I moan as I lay there in a daze. I knew I had to get up and run, but I wasn't sure which way was which. Finally my head started to clear and I slowly stood up. My hand touched the spot on my head which I hit. There was something warm and wet on my head. Blood.
I try and shake it off, telling myself I needed to get running again. I hadn't taken two steps when someone grabbed my hair and pulled me back. I would have fallen down but instead they caught me and I fell against a body. I turn around quickly seeing who it was. Ashley.
I try to back away, but he had grabbed my wrist with a grip that was painful.
He chuckles as he looks at and before I knew it his lips crashed down against mine. He kissed me rough and hungrily as he wrapped his free hand around my neck pulling me closer to him and making escape impossible. I pushed against him with my free arm trying to pull away, but it was useless. He was too strong. After a moment he broke it off but his face was still millimeters from mine, his eyes were still closed. He then opened them and stood up. He was several inches taller than me, my eyes meeting his neck. His arm moved away from my neck as he reached for something in his pocket. My eyes widen as the moonlight gleams on something shiny and sharp.
I tug at my wrist trying to get it free but to no avail.
"Struggling will only make it more painful." He breathes into my ear.
I scream as he takes the object and instead of stabbing me he takes it and starts drawing something on my bare skin, right above the heart and just below my collar bone. It felt as if he was carving and burning something into my skin at the same time.
After several painful seconds he was done. His icy blues eyes looked up into my own and he smirked.
"Now you're mine and only mine. Nothing can take you away from me. Not even yourself." He whispers into my ear and then he's gone.
Before I could look down to see what he had done, darkness wrapped around me.

I woke up screaming and in a cold sweat. My eyes opened and I was in my room safe and sound. I sat up in a daze. Everything in the dream had felt so real, so painful. My breathing was hard as I sat there my mind racing over the dream. I put my hands in my head and scream again when I felt the sticky substance stuck to my head in the exact spot where I had hit it in the dream.
Then I felt it. The burning sensation on my chest. My eyes widen in shock as I dart up and make my way to the bathroom. The light was bright and it took mea second for my eyes to adjust to the light. I stumble to the mirror and look at myself. My eyes glance at my head first and there was blood covering the top left of it. My eyes were also wide in shock. Then I looked at my chest. In the exact place where he had marked me in the dream, there was something black. My hand covers my mouth in shock as I read it.
It was only one word, Ashley.
I rub my hand against it, trying to rub it off. It didn't even smudge. I then take the bar of soap on the counter and scrub until my skin burns a raw red color. It was still there as clear as ever.
"Now you're mine and only mine. No one can take you away from me. Not even yourself."
His words burned in my mind. What had he done to me? How had he done it?
Then I remember something I had been taught at school. I was only ten at the time.
"There are stories saying that the Ungarians can travel through people's dreams. Though they're just rumors and can't be true. People can't get inside other's heads."
But he had. He had entered my dream and he had done something to me.
I started feeling queasy as I fell to the ground. My stomach lurched and I crawled to the toilet and threw up what little I had in my stomach. After I was done I sat leaning against the wall. I felt slightly better now, but I still felt wrong. That's when I realized my heart ached. It wasn't aching horribly, but it was still there a steady throb. Almost like a very intense heart ache as if it wanted someone.
There was no question that Ashley had done something horrible to me. I decided to try and ignore it as my head had started to throb a bit.
I stood up and took a small towel and started to gently wash my cut on my head. As the blood disappeared I was shocked to see no cut lay underneath. Just the shadow of a throb and a bloody towel told me I had cut it.
Then the exhaustion hit me hard. It took all my strength to walk to my bed and lay down. Before I knew it I was in a deep dreamless sleep and I welcomed it.

Chapter 4

I woke up to someone lightly shaking me. I open my eyes and see green ones looking back at me.
"Wake up, sleepyhead!" She says smiling at me.
I look over at the window and see it's still dark outside, though the sun had just begun to come up.
"You've got a big day in front of you. You're mother told me to wake you up at your normal time. Something about having to be at the landing before eight."
I groan remembering that today they were landing. Starting today my life was going to be horrible. Then I gasp as the heart ache reminded me of last night's event.
"Are you alright Luce?" Willow asks concerned.
"I'm fine." I reply smiling forcibly and then darting to the bathroom to get ready. I ran to the mirror after I closed the door and lifted my shirt down slightly. I frown as the word was still there, as perfect and bright as it had been before. Just as the heart ache remained so did the mark.
I sigh realizing that there was nothing I could do but hide it and hurried to take a shower. The smell of the apple shampoo made me feel better though. It was familiar. It was me.
After I get out I slowly fix my hair to where it was perfect, sweeping my bangs to the side and then pinning them. I then braided a small piece of my hair on that side too. I made sure that Willow was out of my room before exiting the bathroom. With only a towel wrapped around me the stupid mark showed. When the door opened and closed and the humming left the room I entered and walked over to my closet net screen trying to find something to where. I was limited on my outfit choices too, which sucked. I ended up choosing a cute sweater and skinnys. After putting on my outfit, I then tugged on some cute heels before leaving the room on my way to the dining hall.
When I entered I was glad that there was noises coming from it, unlike the eerie silence from last night.
Eggs, toast, and bacon sat on my plate as I sat down. I couldn't bring myself to eat it though. The mere thought and sight of the food made me want to throw up again. I frown and push the plate away covering my nose.
"I thought this was your favorite meal." My mother says looking at me strangely. So was my father, Kaleb, and Cain.
I rubbed the mark as she said this.
"I'm just not hungry." I reply not looking up.
She smiles concerned as if she doesn't believe me, but she doesn't question me either.
"I'm going to go out to the town today after we have to greet them." I say to my parents not asking but telling. I needed to get away for a moment and I hadn't been in a while. I missed my friends there. And by friends I mean all the little kids who I loved hanging out with. They all adored me and I adored them.
"I think it would be good for you." Is all my father says.
"I'll be right back!" I say standing up as I realize something. Without waiting for an answer I run out of the room and back to my own room. When I reach it I walk over to where my violin case laid. I couldn't go to town without taking it. The kids loved hearing me play. I grab the case and then walk slowly back to the dining hall. When I reached it I saw that my parents were ready to go to the landing. I walked over to them and my mother smiled when she saw the case.
"I haven't heard you play in forever. You should play for me sometime." She says her eyes sparkling.
I nod and then follow them to the castle gate where a vehicle was waiting to take us. Cain was busy at the moment so Kaleb was going with us.
"I didn't even know you played." He said motioning to the case when we were in the vehicle.
"I usually only play for the kids in town." I say smiling as I waved to the people as we passed.
Our car was going slow in the bust street but I didn't mind at all. It was nice.
"Princess Lucy, when will you come see us again?" A little girl asks as we pass.
"I'm coming in a couple hours Jasmine." I reply smiling at her happy expression.
"When I see there faces, it makes me feel better knowing this is what I'm saving. What I'm sacrificing myself for. It makes it feel worth while after all." I say to him as I shift my attention to him.
"You will be an amazing queen." Is all that he replies.
All to soon we reached the landing and we all got out. I laid my case on the top of the car, planning to grab it and run off before they leave to go back to the palace.
Even with the sun shining brightly, it was still cool. I was glad that I had worn the sweater. I cross my arms and try to keep warm in the wind. When the huge ship came in sight above us I felt the ache grow stronger and then started to lessen as the ship came closer. After a few minutes after the ship had landed the door opened and a group of people walked out. The King and Queen were in the middle surrounded by guards. Their son, Ashley, stood behind them. His eyes searching the crowd before him. When they met mine he smirked. I shivered thinking about last night. I realized that the heart ache was gone, but I doubted the mark was.
I turned my gaze to his mother. She really was beautiful and she had a sort of grace that surrounded her. Her long raven black hair tumbled around her and fell to her waist. Her eyes were a dazzling blue like her sons, but instead of being cold like his, her eye's were warm and inviting.
His father wasn't the best looking man in the world, but the way he held himself was exactly like his son. His eyes were a cold black. I shivered looking at him. He scared me slightly.
They approached us and I looked down at my feet. I wasn't paying attention to what was being spoken either.
"Lucianna!" Someone says and I look up. It was the queen. She stood in front of me with a warm smile on her face.
"You're majesty." I reply doing a quick curtsy.
"There's no need for that and please call me Annastasia." She says wrapping me in a hug.
I stumble back a bit not expecting it, but a small smile crosses my face.
"You can call me Lucy or Luce if you want." I say as she separates.
"Come say hello to you fiancé, Ashley." She says turning to her son who smiles and walks over. "Isn't she just a doll? Not as beautiful as me, but of course very close." She adds laughing.
Ashley comes over and takes my hand and gently brushes his lips on it.
"It's nice to finally see you face to face, Lucy" He says coolly.
He wasn't dressed elegantly like his parents. Instead he wore a plain white t-shirt and black skinny jeans with black converse.
It took all my strength to not yank my hand away.
It was a strange feeling I had inside. I hated him. I knew I did, but when he touched me little sparks of electricity went through me. And my heart felt a longing to him. It wasn't painful like the ache, but the opposite. It was pleasant.
"Ashley." Was all I said.
"Call me Ash." He says winking before twirling me close to him and then wrapped his arm around me.
"What do you think you're doing?" I hiss at him.
"You're feisty, I like that." He says smirking at me. "And I'm you're fiancé , remember?"
"Aww... Young love." His mother says smiling at us. "But you're not officially together yet. No ring or proposal. We're going to do that tomorrow night at the ball!"
"How exciting." I say with a fake smile and I then wriggle my way out of Ashley's grasp. "Now I have things to do and I've got people to see in town. I'll meet up with you guys later." I say walking over to my case and taking it.
"Why doesn't Ashley come with you?" I hear someone say behind me. It was my mother.
"That's a great idea. You can show him around town , while us grown-ups take care of business." His mother adds.
"Sounds like fun." Ashley says as he walks over and hooks his arm with mine. "Bye!" He calls as he leads me away from them.
I groan as he drags me away from them. When we get out of site he turns to me.
"Can I see it?" He asks.
"See what?" I ask.
"The possession mark." He replies grinning as he pulls down my shirt. He smiles when he sees it. Gently fingering it with his hand.
"What is that thing? What did you do to me?" I ask harshly swatting his hand away.
"It's called a possession mark. It binds you to me. It makes you mine. Every Ungarian woman gets one to the man she's marrying. I heard that it messes with your heart though. Makes it ache when we're apart and flutter when we're together. It also makes you immortal now too." He says his face inches from mine.
I glare pushing him away.
"I want you to know. That just because I'm being forced to marry you doesn't mean I have to love you and I will never love you." I softly scream at him before walking off and leaving him.
He grabs my hand however and twirls me back to him like before to where my face was millimeters from his. "Never say never, darling. I'll get you to love me for we have together forever, don't we?"

Chapter 5

As I walked to the middle of town, I couldn't help but frown, Ashley's words repeating themselves in my mind. What if he was right? What if I did end up falling in love with him?
I steal a glance behind me where he was walking a bit behind me. He seemed different then he had on the net screen. He acted like a perfect gentleman, and it bothered me a lot. He could try to fool everyone else, but he couldn't fool me.
I bite my lip wanting to scream at him, hit him. Do something, but I couldn't.
I reached the fountain that lay in the very center of the city. It was huge and where all the kids hung out. Shops and little cafés surrounded the fountain making the place beautiful and perfect.
"Lucy!" A girl says as I approach the fountain. It was the same girl I had passed before, Jasmine.
She ran up to me and tackled me with a hug. I smile hugging her back.
Her eyes get big as a huge grin crosses her face after we separate. "You brought your violin!" She yells.
"I couldn't have came without it." I say smiling back at her as I then walk over to the fountain and sit down on the ledge.
As I do many other shining faces run over to where I was at. I could hear my name being yelled many times as they did. Even a few older kids and adults walked over to see what the commotion was about.
Jasmine had sat down beside me and by the huge smile on her face I could tell she felt important. I laugh softly as I open my case.
"If you get quiet, I'll start to play." I say smiling at them as I put my violin under my chin.
The crowd hushes and I quickly think of a song to play. Thinking of an old city song, I start playing as I close my eyes and just follow the music. I hadn't played in a while, and it sounded a bit strange, but I don't think anyone noticed.
When I finished I set my violin down as everyone clapped. I smiled, stood up, and curtsied.
"Lucy, will you sing for us?" A boy asks as he approaches me.
"You want me to sing, Robert?" I ask sitting him in my lap as I sit back down.
He nods his head, showing his missing tooth as he smiled.
"You lost your tooth!" I exclaim. Last time I had been with him, he was so excited to have a loose tooth.
"Mmhmm. And see this one is loose too!" He says wriggling another with his chubby finger.
"You need to stop growing!" I say laughing as I ruffle his hair. "Now you wanted me to sing, right?"
I stop thinking for a moment as I thought of a song to sing. Finally thinking of one, I waited for the crowd to hush again before I started.
"It's a little bit funny this feeling inside. I'm not one of those who can easily hide. I don't have much money but boy if I did. I'd buy a big house where we both could live." I smile and sit Robert down and stand up. "So excuse me forgetting but these things I do. You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue" I picked a flower and walked over to a girl who was staring at me with big eyes. I hand her the flower making her giggle and smile."Anyway the thing is what I really mean. Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen." I had walked over to Kristen, a small shy girl and held my hand out to her. She blushed, but smiled too, as she takes it. "And you can tell everybody this is your song. It may be quite simple but now that it's done. I hope you don't mind. I hope you don't mind that I put down in words. How wonderful life is while you're in the world." I helped other kids up and danced as I sang. I hadn't done this in forever, but it felt so nice. I felt free and light. The other kids were laughing as I danced with them. I couldn't help but laugh too. I finished the song and then fell done on the grass laughing. The other kids joined me laughing like I was.
I was breathing hard as I sat up and moved the closest kid into my lap. Lightly tickling her in the stomach as I did.
"Stawp it, Wucy. Stawp it!" She screams in her adorable baby voice.
I smile as I stop.
"You need to stop being so adorable!" I say poking her on her nose.
"Are you ticklish, Lucy?" An older girl asked who sat beside me.
"Very much, Diana. But shh it's a secret! We can't let anyone know. Then everyone will start tickling me!" I say putting my finger to my mouth in a silent gesture.
"Lucy's ticklish!" She screams smiling as she starts tickling me.
I scream as the other kids scramble around me tickling me too.
"Stop it!" I scream laughing. "Stop it!"
"Princess!" A voice yells over the crowd and the kids all stop leaving me breathless with a smile on my face. I look up and see Kaleb running in my direction.
"Yes Kaleb?" I ask brushing off the dirt on my shirt.
"You're needed back at the palace." He says holding out a hand to me.
I sigh and take it as he helps me up.
"Way to ruin all my fun!" I say teasingly poking him in the side.
"Blame your mother." He replies smiling at me. "Just wondering, but where is the prince?" He adds.
I shrug my shoulders as I grab my violin off the fountain and say goodbye to everyone.
"You left him?" He asks raising his eyebrows, but a smile was on his face.
"He was making me mad." I pout. "I can't stand being near him. He just makes me so angry."
"Talking about me are we?" A familiar voice says as they wrap their arm around me. "I'm flattered."
"I'm so happy." I say trying to move his arm, but his grip was too strong. "Can you loosen your grip, it hurts." I say as I stop and deal with it.
He doesn't respond but he does loosen his grip.
"So what does she want?" I ask turning to Kaleb. "My mother I mean?"
"She just wanted you back in the palace. Was all." He replies.
I nod. This was normal for my mother who was always worried about me.
"Kaleb was it?" Ashley says from the other side of me. "Has a man named Titus came to the palace yet?"
"The red head demon?" Kaleb says. "Guy has got more energy than he knows what to do with."
Ashley chuckles. "That sounds like him. After we get back to the castle, babe, you'll have to meet him."
"Don't call me that." I say glaring at him.
"I can call you whatever I want, babe." He replies smirking.
I cross my arms and look away.
"Can you do me a favor, Kaleb?" I ask as we reach the castle and then whisper it to him.
"I'll get it done." He says and then runs off.
"What did you ask him?" Ashley asks me as we continue to walk inside the palace.
"Nothing that concerns you." I reply still glaring at him. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go get cleaned up."
I get out of his grip and start on my walk to my room. I just needed to get away from him.
"Not without me." He says linking his arm with mine.
